Monet, Sargent and Van Gogh Said it

Forward, Violetta, Mary Rose and Helen painting at beautiful Indian Rocks Beach
On a recent paint out, Violetta, Mary Rose and I were speaking of art and why we create and the joy in arising at sunrise and plodding in the dark, setting up our easels awaiting the first sun rays to emerge or conversely painting a sunset.
Some quotes from Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent and Vincent Van Gogh speak of this passion for creating artwork

My lovely day by Helen Tilston
Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.

Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love.

I am following Nature without being able to grasp her, I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.

“Color is an inborn gift, but appreciation of value is merely training of the eye, which everyone ought to be able to acquire.”

Mary Rose and Helen creating a good deed (words by Vincent Van Gogh)

Vincent Van Gogh
A good picture is equivalent to a good deed.

An artist needn't be a clergyman or a churchwarden, but he certainly must have a warm heart for his fellow men.

As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed.

But I always think that the best way to know God is to love many things.

Conscience is a man's compass.

Thank you for your kind words. You are so right, we must keep our thought positive and never contaminate our art.

  5. I first met you last year at Indian Rocks Beach as the three of you were on Gulf Boulevard with easels set up, floppy hats on and creating wonderful paintings of the boats on the canal. I was taking my daily walk and admiring your work. You were so kind to stop painting and chat with me.

I love Indian Rocks Beach. I love the PleinAire Cottage Artists' work and I hope to again spot you this winter painting at Indian Rocks Beach.
