Toronto Art and Painting En Plein Air

My art partners Mary Rose and Violetta were scheduled to arrive this past weekend.  A first time for both to visit Toronto.  We were saddened that Violetta had to cancel at the last minute, a family emergency.   We are pleased to report that the patient is recovering and healing.





Yorkville Avenue on Saturday is alive and buzzing with activity.  Neighbours and shoppers stopped to greet us and welcome Mary Rose to Toronto.

A famous singer stopped to chat and we asked him to take this picture.  (We did not swoon nor ask for autographs.  We did not even pretend to recognize him and we think that pleased him.  He drove by later  and called us by name.  Had we been 16 yrs, we would have screamed)

  As plein air painters, Mary Rose particularly loved the immediacy of Tom Thompson's little paintings, often painted from his canoe in Northern Ontario

Emily Carr was not a member of the Group of Seven.  She lived in Western Canada and is famous for her totem poles, paintings of giant redwoods and landscapes.  No visit to the AGO is complete without a hello.

A documentary film "Save Our Cottages"

Mary Rose Ward Gullet with mother Sheri Ward Mary Rose and Matt Gullet married in the Spring time The Wedding We have exciting news, a baby is expected around Christmas time.  The child will be a 7th generation Floridian on the maternal side. Matt and Mary Rose wanted a Florida theme for the baby's room and animals will feature prominently in the bed linen and accessories. Artist Mary Rose Holmes paints palms on nursery walls Artist Mary Rose Holmes was commissioned to paint palm trees.  The parents want the child to enjoy the room for many years and decor can be changed as the baby grows.
